Bassirou Diomaye Faye received the African Union’s special envoy for Mali and the Sahel, Mamadou Tangara, at the Presidential Palace in Dakar as diplomatic efforts intensify across the subregion.
According to the Senegalese presidency, discussions focused on the political and security situation in the Sahel, as well as initiatives aimed at strengthening regional stability, peace and cooperation among states in the sub-region.
The meeting comes amid a series of diplomatic engagements seeking to revive dialogue between Economic Community of West African States and the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
Recent consultations in Lomé brought together officials from both blocs to discuss security cooperation, transport corridors and regional coordination, while authorities in Cotonou also renewed calls for closer collaboration during the inauguration of Benin’s new president.
Senegal has continued to advocate stronger regional integration and uninterrupted economic exchanges within West Africa despite institutional differences among regional organizations.
