Sierra Leone on Tuesday welcomed Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko for the start of a two-day official visit, marking a renewed commitment to cooperation between the two West African nations.
On the first day of his trip, Prime Minister Sonko held high-level talks with Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio in Freetown. Officials described the meeting as constructive, with both leaders reaffirming their dedication to regional collaboration and economic integration.
Discussions centred on boosting bilateral trade, strengthening diplomatic ties, and exploring joint development initiatives. A Sierra Leonean government representative noted that the talks reflected a shared ambition to improve the lives of citizens while contributing to broader progress across Africa.
The visit is expected to lead to expanded partnerships in areas such as commerce, education, and infrastructure, building on the historical solidarity and cultural bonds that link the two countries. Specific agreements or action plans are likely to be announced before the conclusion of the visit.
