Sierra Leone has taken another major step in its national digital expansion efforts with the opening of a new data facility in the southern city of Bo.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new Orange Centre, President Bio said the development reflects the country’s broader ambition to build resilient digital infrastructure capable of supporting economic growth, innovation and improved public services.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to deepening technological capacity and encouraging private investment in the sector.
He noted that expanding such facilities beyond the capital was essential to bridging the digital divide and ensuring that technological benefits reach communities nationwide.
The President emphasised that the country’s growing reliance on digital services requires strong safeguards to protect citizens. He called for enhanced cybersecurity systems, responsible use of telecommunications platforms, and firmer action against online harassment and cybercrime.
President Bio also reiterated that human capital development remains central to his administration’s agenda and assured that the government will continue to implement policies that make Sierra Leone an attractive destination for investment, strengthen the digital economy and position the country to participate more effectively in global technological progress.
