U.S. Expresses Readiness to Support Mali in Counter-Terrorism and Economic Cooperation

The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to support Mali in combating terrorism, following a two-day visit by William B. Stevens, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for West Africa and U.S. Special Envoy to the Sahel, from July 21 to 22.

During a press briefing in Bamako, Stevens emphasized that terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda, JNIM, and ISGS are not only threats to Mali but also to the United States.

He noted that the U.S. would work with Mali to disrupt terrorist financing networks and collaborate more closely on counter-terrorism efforts.

In addition to security, the visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties in health and trade.

Stevens announced plans to establish an American Chamber of Commerce in Mali to attract U.S. investors and encourage partnerships with Malian businesses.

He held talks with Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop, during which both parties discussed respect for state sovereignty, peacebuilding, and expanding economic cooperation through private investment.
