Mali Takes Algeria to International Court Over Downing of Military Drone

Mali has filed a case against Algeria at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing its neighbor of aggression after Algerian forces shot down a Malian reconnaissance drone near the border town of Tinzaouaten in Kidal region between March 31 and April 1.

Bamako claims the drone was deliberately targeted to obstruct military operations against armed groups, describing the incident as a violation of international law and the principle of non-use of force.

Mali’s government said repeated requests for evidence that the drone violated Algerian airspace went unanswered.

Algeria has previously stated that its forces intercepted an armed drone that crossed into its territory, though officials have not yet commented on Mali’s legal action.

The dispute marks a new escalation in already tense relations between the two countries, with Bamako framing the incident as the culmination of a series of hostile acts by Algiers.
