The Nigerian Army has sustained pressure on ISWAP militants in the northeast through coordinated ground and air operations under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK). In a statement issued by OPHK Headquarters, troops reported repelling multiple attacks and inflicting significant losses on insurgents in Limankara, Kukawa, and Lamusheri in Borno State.
On the night of February 20, 2026, coordinated assaults in Limankara and Kukawa were thwarted through combined ground resistance and aerial support, forcing the attackers to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.
On February 22, a precision strike around Lamusheri village in Gujba Local Government Area led to the neutralization of 15 fighters, while others reportedly fled with injuries.
Troops dismantled defensive positions, destroyed vehicles and tricycles allegedly used for attacks, and recovered weapons, ammunition, and logistical supplies.
The operation, conducted with intelligence support and in collaboration with the Joint Civilian Task Force, also foiled an attempted infiltration of the Limankara Forward Operating Base. In Kukawa, insurgents advancing from the Alagarno and Jemmu axes were repelled with air backing, and follow-up strikes destroyed motorcycles and eliminated additional fighters. Authorities confirmed the recovery of 13 AK-47 rifles, 16 magazines, communication radios, and other materials.
One soldier was killed in action, while wounded personnel were evacuated and reported to be in stable condition. Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining offensive operations to further degrade insurgent capabilities and enhance regional security.
