Mali: Foreign Minister Holds Farewell Meeting with Outgoing UNDP Representative

Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdoulaye Diop has received the outgoing Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, Maleye Diop, during a farewell meeting marking the end of his mission in the country.

The discussion reviewed the cooperation between Mali and the UN agency and explored prospects for the next partnership program, with the Malian government acknowledging the UNDP’s support in key areas including socio-economic governance, institutional reforms, development financing and capacity building for national stakeholders.

Maleye Diop, a Senegalese national who has led the UNDP office in Mali since 2022, highlighted the strong collaboration between the organization and Malian authorities, noting the government’s commitment to implementing joint development initiatives and its consistent financial contributions to the agency.

With extensive experience in the UN system and previous service as UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of the Congo, Diop emphasized the importance of continued cooperation as the agency supports governance, local economic development, conflict prevention and community resilience programs in Mali, where development partners remain crucial amid ongoing security and economic challenges.
