Former Guinean Central Bank Chief Denies Corruption and Embezzlement Charges in Court

Former governor of the Central Bank of Guinea, Louncény Nabé, has appeared before the trial chamber of the Court for the Repression of Economic and Financial Offenses to face charges of embezzlement, corruption, and illicit enrichment. Prosecutors allege that between 2011 and 2021, during the presidency of Alpha Condé, Nabé misappropriated significant public assets, including gold reserves estimated at over three tonnes, to the detriment of the Guinean state.

The case is unfolding under the current administration of Mamadi Doumbouya, who came to power following the 2021 coup. In court, Nabé firmly rejected all allegations, stating he does not recognize the charges against him.

During the proceedings, the defense requested medical evaluation by a cardiologist due to the accused’s health concerns, a request not opposed by the prosecution but left undecided by the court.

The trial has been adjourned until May 6, 2026, as legal arguments and procedural matters continue to unfold.
