Nigeria Calls for Global Action On Ai-driven Security Threats at Un

Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has called on the international community to respond urgently to rising geopolitical tensions, the spread of advanced weapons systems and emerging threats linked to artificial intelligence and cyberwarfare.

Speaking in New York during a meeting with participants from the U.S. Army War College visiting the Nigerian mission to the UN, the ambassador urged the United Nations to adopt a more proactive approach toward great power competition and the risks posed by rapidly evolving military technologies.

According to Ibrahim, the growing use of autonomous weapons, drones and AI-based warfare systems is making global arms regulation increasingly complex and requires stronger international coordination.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthening Nigeria’s military capabilities through increased defense investments, improved welfare for soldiers and expanded strategic partnerships.

The diplomat further praised the longstanding relations between Nigeria and the United States, while commending Nigerian officers trained at the U.S. Army War College, noting that former President Muhammadu Buhari is among the institution’s alumni.
