The Confederation of Sahel States (AES) is seeking to strengthen its internal coordination and deepen its strategic partnership with Russia.
The issue was discussed on October 29, 2026, during a meeting between Mali’s transitional President, General Assimi Goïta, and a high-level AES delegation on the sidelines of the third Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Moscow.
The delegation was led by Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, and Niger’s Foreign Affairs Minister, accompanied by their respective delegations.
Discussions focused on consolidating the Confederation and coordinating joint diplomatic action in its relations with Russia.
Following the meeting, Ouédraogo welcomed Goïta’s guidance and reaffirmed the three member states’ commitment to strengthening their unity and solidarity while deepening their strategic partnership with Moscow.
