Mali’s armed forces have launched coordinated strikes against suspected terrorist positions in three regions, targeting an armed group’s base and motorcycle convoys carrying dozens of fighters, according to the military.
The operations took place on Wednesday, October 28, in the northern, southeastern and central parts of the country under Operation Dougoukoloko, a campaign aimed at strengthening surveillance and security across Mali.
In its statement issued on Friday, the General Staff of the Armed Forces said the first strike targeted an armed group’s gathering point north of Talhandak. Military intelligence had identified the location, which reportedly contained fighters and substantial stocks of military equipment and supplies.
In the southeastern Nangola area of the Dioïla region, surveillance teams tracked nine motorcycles, each carrying two armed individuals, before directing strikes against the group.
A separate operation targeted another group of armed men travelling by motorcycle about 32 kilometres west of Djenné. The military said the group had attempted to conceal its movements, adding that no further activity was detected after the strike.
The General Staff said troops were continuing reconnaissance and assessment missions in the affected areas to determine the full outcome of the operations and identify any remaining threats.
The military also reaffirmed its commitment to securing national territory, with support from local communities.
