A Nigerian military camp in Kareto, Borno State, suffered a major attack by Boko Haram fighters on Saturday, resulting in casualties and substantial losses.
Military sources reported about 20 soldiers killed, though the Defence Headquarters later confirmed five fatalities.
The assault included violent clashes, a suicide car bombing, and heavy weaponry.
A military vehicle was destroyed. The camp, including 14 vehicles, was burned down.
Fighters reportedly seized four four-wheel-drive vehicles and a cache of weapons, including heavy machine guns, before retreating.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum expressed condolences to the military through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar.
Governor Zulum condemned the attack, describing it as a grim reminder of Boko Haram’s callousness and the persistent threat to regional security.
