BudgIT Questions Senegal’s Compensation Plan for Victims of Political Unrest

Senegalese civic organization BudgIT has raised concerns over the government’s plan to compensate victims of political unrest that occurred between 2021 and 2024.

The Ministry of Family and Solidarity recently announced that bereaved families will receive 10 million CFA francs in financial aid as part of the initiative.

While BudgIT supports compensation for affected families, the organization is calling for a thorough investigation into the unrest to ensure accountability and transparency in the process.

Civil society groups continue to push for justice and clarity regarding those responsible for the violence, urging the government to go beyond financial settlements.
