Burkina Faso and Benin have pledged to deepen cooperation following talks in Ouagadougou between President Ibrahim Traoré and President Romuald Wadagni, aimed at revitalizing bilateral relations and addressing shared regional challenges.
The discussions, held at the presidential palace, were described as a “decisive step” toward restoring trust and strengthening coordination between the two neighbours.
Both leaders focused heavily on security cooperation in response to terrorism, cross-border crime and violent extremism affecting the West African sub-region, while also highlighting the importance of economic ties.
They stressed the role of the Port of Cotonou in facilitating Burkina Faso’s trade and called for improved transport corridors and faster implementation of joint infrastructure agreements.
The two sides also agreed to accelerate the next session of their joint cooperation commission and reinforce diplomatic dialogue as part of broader regional integration efforts.
