Opposition figure Issa Tchiroma Bakary has called on supporters to launch a new phase of mobilization in Cameroon, signaling a continuation of political activism following the October 12 presidential election, which officially returned President Paul Biya to power with 53.66% of the vote.
In a social media post on Wednesday, October 29, Tchiroma described the electoral process as an “electoral charade” and urged citizens to remain steadfast, framing the moment as a unique opportunity to challenge the status quo.
“Only your determination will remove them. Fear will not stop us,” he wrote, emphasizing grassroots activism as the driving force for change.
The former Minister of Communication, now a leading opposition figure, criticized state institutions for bias and warned the current government that acts of repression would not go unchallenged.
He concluded by announcing the “third stage” of mobilization, signaling that coordinated actions and demonstrations are expected to follow.
No official recount or legal challenge has yet been reported following the Constitutional Council’s certification of the results.
