Chadian Government Denies Attack Rumors in Tibesti, Reaffirms Peace Deal Implementation

The Chadian government has dismissed reports of attacks in the town of Miski, Tibesti province, saying rumors circulating on social media are unfounded.

Authorities confirmed that Defense and Security Forces are deployed in the area to maintain order and reinforce state authority.

N’Djamena stressed that since 2019, multiple peace agreements have been signed with self-defense groups in Tibesti to safeguard stability, including the most recent accord sealed on April 20, 2025, in Bardai.

The Miski Self-Defense Committee also confirmed there is no dispute between residents and the government, noting that recent tensions were resolved through dialogue.

It reiterated its commitment to the peace agreement, highlighting progress such as the suspension of mining permits, regulation of local exploitation, and the work of the National Monitoring Commission.

The committee said discussions with authorities over military presence remain constructive, and emphasized that only the Mediator of the Republic and the official facilitation team are mandated to oversee the agreement’s finalization.
