Chadian Opposition Outlines 7-point Reform Agenda from Prison

Succès Masra, leader of the opposition party Les Transformateurs, has issued a detailed political message from prison marking the party’s 8th anniversary, where he is currently serving a 20-year sentence.

In the statement, he presented seven proposals aimed at reshaping governance in Chad, calling for national reconciliation, institutional reform, and stronger inclusion across political and social lines.

Central to his proposals is a call for a “balanced” and merit-based state system, including a gender- and religion-parity government, equal representation in public institutions, and performance-based contracts for officials.

He also advocates for an independent observatory to monitor fair representation across civil, military, and diplomatic institutions.

Other key proposals include electing regional governors by universal suffrage, introducing a dual presidential ticket system to ensure inclusivity, establishing a national reconciliation day supported by a truth and justice mechanism, and introducing mandatory civic or military service for young people.
