Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has met with provincial government delegates and local elected officials to discuss the operational phase of the country’s decentralization process.
The meeting, which follows the National Forum on Decentralization held from July 21 to 25, focused on implementing key recommendations to strengthen local governance.
Provincial councilors and municipal leaders—seen as central to this process—engaged directly with the president to align on priorities and strategies for effective decentralization.

President Déby Itno stressed the need for integrity, transparency, and accountability in public management and urged respect for the autonomy of decentralized communities.
He cautioned against interference in the functions of provincial and municipal authorities.
The decentralization reform, officially adopted through the December 2023 constitutional referendum, has moved into its implementation stage following local elections in December 2024, marking a significant shift in Chad’s public administration and governance approach.
