The N’Djamena branch of the Chadian Teachers’ Union (SET) has declared a one-week warning strike from October 2 to 9, 2025, coinciding with the official start of the new academic year.
The decision, announced after a general assembly on Wednesday, follows the expiry of a strike notice filed last month.
Teachers are demanding improved benefits, particularly housing allowances, along with other measures to address what they describe as poor working conditions.
Union leaders blame the government for failing to act on their concerns and have set up a monitoring committee to ensure compliance across schools, including private institutions.
While signaling openness to dialogue, SET warned that tougher action could follow if their demands remain unmet.
The immediate impact of the strike means students in N’Djamena will remain out of classrooms for the week.
