Colonel Michaël Randrianirina has officially assumed office as Madagascar’s transitional president following his swearing-in ceremony at the High Constitutional Court (HCC) in Ambohidahy.
The inauguration, held in the presence of judicial officials, military and civilian leaders, diplomats, and community representatives, comes after the HCC’s decision of October 14, 2025, confirming the power transition.
Randrianirina emphasized the legality of the process, rejecting claims of a coup and affirming that the change of leadership occurred without violence or force.
The new leader outlined his priorities, including restoring the rule of law, addressing the socio-economic crisis, and rebuilding trust between institutions and citizens.
He announced plans to form a transitional government with a civilian majority to ensure balance and inclusiveness.
The HCC acknowledged a power vacuum, with no immediate elections planned until reforms are made to the National Electoral Commission and electoral register.
Randrianirina, a former southern governor and graduate of the Antsirabe Military Academy, acknowledged Madagascar’s suspension by the African Union as expected and confirmed an upcoming SADC assessment mission.
He pledged to lead a lawful and gradual restructuring of the Republic.
