Côte d’Ivoire Secures 68 Billion CFA Loan to Power Ghana Electricity Link

The Ivorian government has approved a loan of approximately 68 billion CFA francs to fund the initial phase of a cross-border electricity project with Ghana. The agreement, endorsed during the Council of Ministers meeting on 4 June, forms part of the broader West Africa Regional Electricity Market initiative spearheaded by ECOWAS.

Government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly stated that the interconnection project is designed to enhance energy exchange between Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, while also improving grid stability and supporting the wider sub-regional electricity market.
The ambitious plan includes building a high-voltage transmission line linking the Dunkwa II substation in Ghana’s Central Region to the Bingerville substation near Abidjan.

The infrastructure will incorporate fibre optic technology and remote monitoring systems, and will be developed with climate resilience in mind.
