Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has urged Guinea to restore national stability and create a calm environment to enable peaceful elections, similar to Côte d’Ivoire’s planned polls in October 2025.
Speaking during a joint press briefing with his Guinean counterpart, General Mamadi Doumbouya, who was on a 48-hour working visit to Côte d’Ivoire, Ouattara reaffirmed his country’s readiness to deepen bilateral ties and offer guidance to Guinea.
He applauded the progress under Guinea’s “Simandou 2040” program and noted a 78% increase in trade between the two nations by 2024, reaching nearly 100 billion CFA francs, though he stressed that the full potential of economic cooperation remains untapped.
Both leaders agreed to intensify collaboration in mining and transport, with projects including the Lola road tunnel and a new railway linking San Pedro to Conakry.
They committed to convening the third session of the joint cooperation commission and to finalizing border demarcations.
On regional issues, they pledged continued support for Sahel nations grappling with humanitarian and security crises and called for the revival of Mano River Union ministerial meetings to boost economic integration and environmental monitoring.
