The African People’s Party-Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI), an opposition party led by former president Laurent Gbagbo, has condemned legal proceedings and detentions involving its members, accusing authorities of targeting the opposition.
In a statement on Thursday, October 15, the party’s executive president, Léon Emmanuel Monnet, said more than 1,600 people had been detained since the October 2025 presidential election. He also reported five deaths in custody, while noting that most detainees were awaiting trial.
The party highlighted cases involving several senior officials, including Sébastien Dano Djédjé, who was placed under judicial supervision on October 12, as well as other members summoned by a specialised court unit.
The PPA-CI called for an end to what it described as politically motivated proceedings and urged the government to pursue inclusive political dialogue. It also appealed to its supporters to remain calm.
