ECOWAS Assesses Early Warning Centers in Ghana and Benin to Strengthen Regional Security

ECOWAS is conducting a joint technical mission to Ghana and Benin from July 31 to August 5, 2025, to evaluate the effectiveness of equipment provided to their National Early Warning and Response Centers.

Led by the ECOWAS Early Warning Directorate and Peace Fund, the mission aims to ensure these centers are fully operational and aligned with regional efforts to prevent and respond to emerging threats.

The initiative falls under the African Peace and Security Architecture Support Programme (APSA-SP), supported by the European Union and African Union Commission.

The mission is assessing logistical, IT, and office equipment usage, identifying operational challenges, and proposing improvements in accordance with international best practices and the ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework.

With technical and material assistance already extended to Benin, Cape Verde, Ghana, Niger, and Senegal, this evaluation will inform future strategies to reinforce national systems.

The delegation also visited training institutions funded under Phase II of the APSA program to conduct monitoring and evaluation exercises.

ECOWAS reaffirmed its commitment to helping member states build resilient institutions for conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
