Eight leaders of armed groups have surrendered to Nigerian authorities in Kano State as part of a military-led disarmament initiative, the Nigerian military confirmed.
The operation, known as Operation Fasan Yamma, is a collaborative effort between the Nigerian military and local stakeholders aimed at reducing insecurity in the region.
The individuals—identified as Kamulu Buzaru, Manore, Nagwaggo, Lalbi, Alhaji Sani, Dogo Baidu, Dogo Nahalle, and Abdulkadir Black—voluntarily turned in their weapons and pledged their commitment to peace.
As part of the surrender, 16 hostages were released, including seven women and nine children.
The former gang leaders also promised to release the remaining captives in their custody by June 15, 2025.
The Nigerian military confirmed that all released individuals have been handed over to local authorities, and the surrendered arms secured.
Security officials report that the situation in the region remains stable, with a strong troop presence maintained to safeguard ongoing peace efforts.
