African leaders are working to fast-track the establishment of a special hybrid court to try former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh for alleged human rights violations committed during his 22-year authoritarian rule.
Jammeh, along with several other leaders from Sudan, the Central African Republic, and Ethiopia, is among those facing allegations of assassinations, enforced disappearances, torture, and rape. While no arrest warrant has been issued for him, Jammeh denies any involvement.
Additionally, former Sudanese military ruler Omar al-Bashir has been issued two arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court (ICC). He is being prosecuted for war crimes, including pillage and attacks on civilians, as well as crimes against humanity, such as murder, extermination, forcible transfer, torture, and rape.
Other former African leaders on the list include; François Bozizé (Former President of the Central African Republic), Mengistu Haile Mariam (Former Ethiopian leader)
They are among the 10 most wanted former heads of state globally, accused of committing crimes against humanity while in office.
