Faye calls for stronger regional cooperation against terrorism at Dakar Forum

At the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye underscored the interdependence of West African states in addressing security threats, calling for a unified regional response to terrorism.

Speaking during a high-level debate, he stressed that instability in countries such as Mali or Mauritania inevitably affects neighboring nations, including Senegal.

He warned that isolated national approaches are insufficient and could allow armed groups to exploit gaps by establishing safe havens across borders.

Faye emphasized the need to balance sovereignty with cooperation, advocating for coordinated strategies that combine internal control with regional alignment and carefully managed international partnerships.

On the operational level, he called for strengthened military responses, tighter border security, enhanced intelligence sharing, and joint operations among defense and security forces.

His remarks reinforced the forum’s role as a key platform for shaping collective strategies to address evolving security challenges across the continent.
