At least five people, including the chief of Kalba, have been killed and six others seriously injured following a gun battle over a disputed parcel of land in Ghana’s Savannah Region.
The incident, which erupted Sunday night, forced the chief of Gbenyiri to abandon his palace and seek refuge at the Kalba chief’s residence.
According to police, tensions escalated when the Gbenyiri chief was later escorted back to his community by the Kalba chief’s son, but the group was ambushed, leading to the fatal attack.
The injured victims were taken to a district hospital in Tuna for treatment, while security has since been reinforced in Kalba and Gbenyiri by a combined team led by the Savannah Regional Police Commander.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, but no arrests have yet been made.
The clash underscores the persistent threat of land disputes in the region, which have often escalated into deadly confrontations.
