Gambia and Ghana Sign MOU to Implement ECOWAS Free Roaming Service

The Gambia and Ghana have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement the ECOWAS Free Roaming Service, a groundbreaking initiative to enhance mobile communication across West Africa.

The agreement, signed on Wednesday, signifies a collaborative step towards improving connectivity and fostering seamless communication within the region.

Dr. Njogu Bah, Director General of The Gambia’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), commended the cooperation of mobile operators from both nations and the National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana.

He described the MOU as a testament to the two countries’ shared commitment to advancing mobile services for citizens at home and abroad.

Bah also highlighted the strategic opportunity for The Gambia to strengthen its digital infrastructure and broaden access to information through this initiative.

He praised the enduring partnership between the two nations, grounded in mutual respect and a shared vision for regional development.

Prof. Ezer Osei Yeboah Boateng, Deputy Director General of NCA-Ghana, lauded the collaborative efforts that made the agreement possible.

He extended an invitation to PURA and mobile operators to attend the Go-Live Launch of the ECOWAS Free Roaming Services in Ghana, scheduled for April 2025.
