The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of Gambia (DLEAG) has arrested three Nigerian nationals and seized over 40,000 ecstasy tablets at the Banjul International Airport.
The arrests followed an investigation launched in late November based on intelligence about a smuggling attempt from India.
The operation culminated on December 18 with the apprehension of the suspects in Amdalai and Serrekunda.
The three suspects, identified as Ikechukweu Livinus Akwusaia (alias IK), Ifeanacho Raphael, and Sunday Ainbgaoso, were reportedly involved in different aspects of the trafficking operation.
According to the anti-narcotics agency, IK, the nephew of the alleged sender in India, coordinated the receipt of the illicit package.
The suspects, now in custody, were found with a parcel weighing 26.4 kilograms, which had been deliberately mislabeled to evade detection.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) airport customs services.
