Gambia’s Parliament to Hold Public Hearings on Sale of Jammeh’s Confiscated Assets

The Gambian National Assembly’s ad hoc committee investigating the sale and disposal of assets confiscated from former President Yahya Jammeh will begin public hearings on Monday, July 14, in the capital, Banjul.

This move follows revelations that major transactions—including shares in Gam Petroleum (551.25 million GMD), Comium Gambia Ltd (5.75 million GMD), and properties in Kerr Serign and Brufut Gardens (202.75 million GMD)—were concluded before the Janneh Commission completed its work in 2019, raising concerns over transparency and accountability.

In a national address on May 14, President Adama Barrow acknowledged that asset sales occurred during the commission’s tenure and pledged stricter oversight of the ministerial Task Force overseeing the process.

He emphasized that the recovered assets belong to the people and assured that findings from the National Assembly and National Audit Office investigations would be made public.

The hearings form part of broader efforts to ensure transparency and address lingering questions surrounding the management of Jammeh’s assets, following his 2017 departure into exile after more than two decades in power.
