Ghana Begins Pivotal General Elections

Ghanaians are heading to the polls today in a closely watched general election to choose a president and 276 parliamentarians. Touted as one of the most competitive in the nation’s history, the election features 12 presidential candidates, with the spotlight on the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader, former President John Dramani Mahama.

Both candidates have led intense campaigns, presenting starkly contrasting visions for the future of the country.

Polling stations opened at 7:00 AM to long lines of eager voters. Officials and security agencies are ensuring smooth proceedings and maintaining order.

Citizens have been urged to adhere to electoral guidelines and exercise their civic duty peacefully.

The outcome of the elections, which also determine the composition of the 276-member Parliament, will be a critical moment for Ghana’s democratic legacy.
