Ghana Doubles Infrastructure Budget with $2.4 Billion ‘Big Push’ Road Initiative

Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has announced a major boost to the country’s infrastructure drive, with GHC30.8 billion (about USD 2.4 billion) earmarked for the government’s 2026 “Big Push” road construction programme, more than twice the GHC13.8 billion allocated in 2025.

The expanded funding, unveiled during a sod-cutting ceremony in Wa on Tuesday, is aimed at accelerating road development, improving national and regional connectivity, and reinforcing Ghana’s position as a key transport and trade hub in West Africa.

President Mahama said the increased investment will support the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects and the launch of new road networks, particularly in the country’s northern transport corridors.

He added that the ‘Big Push’ represents a central pillar of the country’s long-term development vision, emphasizing the importance of quality construction, transparency, and community involvement in delivering sustainable results.

He also assured that under the new financing framework, funding constraints would not hinder project implementation, signaling the government’s determination to close infrastructure gaps and stimulate economic growth through improved transport systems.
