Ghana has introduced a streamlined visa policy that will process applications within five working days – a major improvement from the previous 4 to 6-week waiting period.
The policy, which takes immediate effect, was announced by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a public statement. The initiative is designed to attract more tourists, investors, and business opportunities by eliminating bureaucratic delays and making travel to Ghana more accessible.
The minister said the initiative marks a new era in Ghana’s openness to the world and by cutting the red tape, the country is laying the groundwork for stronger partnerships and increased investment flows.
According to Ablakwa, systems have already been activated across Ghana’s embassies and consulates worldwide to support the new fast-track regime.
The policy is in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s January 2025 commitment during his inauguration speech, in which he declared that “Ghana is open for business.”
While the shortened timeline is a significant improvement, the Ministry also stressed that all applications will still be subject to standard vetting and approval processes.
Ghana’s move follows a growing trend among African nations to modernise immigration systems and attract global investment, as competition for international tourism and business intensifies across the continent.
