Ghana’s government has announced that contractors who abandoned road projects nationwide will soon return to site following the completion of an Auditor-General’s audit into contracts awarded under the previous administration.
President John Mahama made this known during his Eastern Regional “Thank You” Tour in Koforidua, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restarting stalled projects under the Big Push Agenda, aimed at driving infrastructure development.
Mahama noted that those found to have received double payments would face sanctions, adding that the next phase of the project would be guided by strict oversight and accountability.
The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Nene Sakite II, expressed support for the government’s infrastructure goals and pledged the backing of traditional leaders in the fight against illegal mining.
He called on the President to sustain efforts to protect Ghana’s environment and water bodies.
The expected return of contractors is anticipated to enhance road connectivity and ease transportation challenges, potentially boosting economic activities and improving access to essential services in underserved communities.
