Guinea Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Sahara

Guinea has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara region during a meeting in Rabat between Guinean Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouyaté and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2nd Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in Francophone Environments, Kouyaté stressed that Guinea’s position on the Moroccan identity of the Sahara remains “firm, constant and unchanging.”

He reiterated Conakry’s longstanding backing of Morocco’s territorial integrity and support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, describing it as the only credible and realistic solution to the regional dispute.

The Guinean minister also welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025, which recognizes the Moroccan autonomy plan as the only serious, credible and lasting basis for a political settlement within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

According to Kouyaté, Guinea’s support aligns with the growing international consensus around Morocco’s proposal, driven by diplomatic efforts led by Mohammed VI.
