Guinea’s Doumbouya Plans Nationwide Judicial Restructuring

Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya is considering a nationwide restructuring of the country’s judicial system aimed at improving court operations and access to justice.

A draft restructuring plan was presented to him on Wednesday, October 21, by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, accompanied by members of the High Council of the Judiciary, during a meeting at the Mohammed V Presidential Palace in Conakry.

The proposal covers the reorganisation of courts across the country and changes to responsibilities within the judiciary. According to the presidency, the initiative aims to improve the efficiency of the justice system and strengthen public confidence in judicial institutions.

The plan forms part of Doumbouya’s stated priorities for strengthening the rule of law, republican institutions and public governance. It also emphasises increasing the participation of women and young people in public institutions, including the judiciary.

Further details on the proposed changes and their implementation have not yet been provided.
