Ivorian Government Grants Presidential Pardon to Over 2,000 Prisoners

The Ivorian government is granting a presidential pardon to over 2,000 common law prisoners on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the country’s independence. This celebration of accession to sovereignty was an opportunity for President Alassane Ouattara to take a retrospective look at the progress made, noting current challenges and future issues.

According to Ouattara, this convincing “progress” was achieved thanks to the numerous projects and reforms implemented by the government in the sectors of health, education, technical education and vocational training, as well as nutrition. He promised to “work to minimize the consequences of the demands of development, of a modern country, on the populations impacted,” while insinuating that the ambition of the State remains the improvement of the daily lives and living conditions of all citizens.

The festivities of the 64th anniversary of Côte d’Ivoire’s independence will take place on the Eastern Highway this Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in Grand-Bassam, a seaside town located 40 km southeast of Abidjan.
