Kenya has declared a seven-day national mourning period following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away after a cardiac arrest.
Odinga, the son of independence hero and former vice president Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, was a towering figure in Kenya’s political landscape for decades, known for his relentless fight for democracy and reform.
President William Ruto paid tribute to Odinga as a visionary leader and peacemaker who dedicated his life to justice, unity, and constitutional progress.
He described him as a patriot and pan-Africanist whose legacy will inspire generations across Africa. Global tributes have also poured in, including from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who remembered Odinga as a true statesman and a steadfast friend of India.
