Former Senegalese President Macky Sall has revealed details of a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, where both leaders exchanged views on the future of global governance and the reform of the United Nations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Sall said their discussions focused on building a stronger, more representative, and more effective UN capable of addressing the growing expectations of nations and citizens amid mounting global challenges.
The meeting comes as Sall continues his campaign for the position of UN Secretary-General, with the selection process expected to conclude before the end of 2026.
The former Senegalese leader has advocated for a revitalized multilateral system, stronger preventive diplomacy, accelerated implementation of sustainable development goals, and reforms aimed at improving the efficiency and legitimacy of the UN, including changes to the Security Council.
His candidacy is among several being considered to succeed António Guterres when his second term expires on December 31, 2026.
