EX President Macky Sall presents UN reform vision in a bid for Secretary-General role

Former Senegalese President Macky Sall is set to outline his vision for leading the United Nations on April 22, as part of the ongoing selection process for the next Secretary-General.

His presentation took place during interactive dialogues organized by the United Nations General Assembly, with hearings scheduled over two days.

Candidates including Michelle Bachelet and Rafael Mariano Grossi were heard on April 21, while Rebeca Grynspan is also expected to present before Sall’s session later in the day.

Officially nominated by Burundi, Sall is promoting a reform agenda centered on rebuilding multilateralism and improving the effectiveness of the UN system.

In his vision document titled “Rebuilding Multilateralism for a Better World,” he highlights what he describes as a “deep and systemic” crisis in global governance and proposes reforms built on three pillars: linking peace, security and development; revitalizing multilateral cooperation; and strengthening institutional governance through greater transparency and efficiency.

Drawing on decades of public service, including 12 years leading Senegal, Sall aims to position himself as a pragmatic and results-driven candidate ahead of key Security Council consultations.
