Mali Earmarks CFA433 Billion for Local Authorities in 2026

Mali has allocated approximately CFA433 billion to local authorities in its 2026 budget, representing 15.84% of the state’s budgetary resources, according to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation.

The allocation was announced by Minister Issa Ousmane Coulibaly during a national workshop in Bamako held from 7 to 9 October. Discussions focused on decentralisation, public fund management and accountability.

In 2024, local authorities received more than CFA440 billion, equivalent to 20.32% of state budget revenues. However, the 2024 figure reflects actual transfers, while the 2026 amount is a budget allocation awaiting execution.

Mali restructured its territorial administration in 2023, transferring responsibilities from central government to local authorities. Timely funding remains essential for local administrations to deliver public services, particularly in areas affected by insecurity and displacement.
