The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have launched a wave of intensified operations targeting jihadist groups following coordinated attacks on eight strategic locations by the al-Qaeda-affiliated JNIM on July 1.
In response, FAMa neutralized over 80 fighters, dismantled enemy bases, and seized weapons, vehicles, and ammunition. Attacks had hit areas including Niono, Kayes, and Nioro du Sahel, with the jihadists claiming responsibility and reporting military casualties. Colonel-Major Souleymane Dembélé confirmed that counter-operations were immediately launched to retake control and prevent further escalation.
In the following weeks, strikes continued in Kayes, Nara, Ménaka, and Timbuktu regions, including the destruction of training camps and logistical hubs in the Gal-Gal forest, Bamadougou, and Tin Aïcha.
Notably, a July 17 operation in Niono thwarted attempts to reestablish a jihadist base, while July 15 airstrikes in Anderamboukané eliminated 40 terrorists in coordination with the Alliance of Sahel States.
The General Staff assured that efforts to locate and destroy jihadist sanctuaries are ongoing, with no losses reported among Malian forces in recent engagements.
