The Malian army has seized a significant cache of military equipment allegedly intended for the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), reinforcing claims of foreign backing for terrorist groups in the region.
Announced on national television, the haul includes 20 pneumatic cannons with recharging devices, 4,000 turbines, 3,280 pairs of rangers, 4,000 fatigues, 100 khaki uniforms, over 4,000 badges and patches, and 20 boxes of jerseys—all bearing the FLA insignia.
The Malian military stated the items, produced in an Asian country and routed through a neighboring state, were intercepted through coordinated intelligence efforts by the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) and a partner nation.
Authorities say the operation underscores external efforts to destabilize Mali, with judicial investigations underway.
This development follows heightened tensions since July 2023, when deadly clashes near Tinzaoutene led to accusations against Ukraine for supporting rebellion, resulting in Mali and its allies severing diplomatic ties with Kyiv.
The Malian general staff commended regional intelligence and defense teams for their swift action and reaffirmed commitment to national security and peace.
