Malian Government Highlights Five Years of Defense and Security Reforms

Mali’s Ministers of Defense and Security have outlined major achievements made over the past five years, highlighting investments aimed at strengthening the country’s defense and security forces.

Speaking during a public engagement in Bamako to mark five years of the transition under President Assimi Goïta, Minister Delegate for Defense, General Oumar Diarra, said the government had constructed new military hospitals, camps and housing for personnel, established a War College, acquired new aircraft and improved the welfare and operational capacity of the armed forces. 

Minister of Security and Civil Protection, General Daoud Aly Mohammedine, said his ministry had completed 131 infrastructure projects and recruited more than 15,000 personnel into the National Police and Civil Protection, with another 3,000 currently in training.

He also highlighted the introduction of biometric passports and national identity cards for the Confederation of Sahel States, as well as increased investment in security equipment and emergency response capabilities.

The two ministers called on citizens to continue supporting the defense and security forces by remaining vigilant and sharing information to help strengthen national security.
