Malian Government says April 25 Attacks Aimed to Overthrow Transition Government

Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga stated that the coordinated attacks of April 25 in Mali were intended to overthrow the Transition government, as the nation observed two days of mourning for Sadio Camara, who died following an હુમ હુમ attack on his residence in Kati near Bamako.

Paying tribute to the victims, Maïga said the assaults went beyond ordinary terrorist acts, describing them as an attempt to seize power, dismantle state institutions and halt the transition process.

He added that the attackers sought to spread fear, undermine national cohesion and weaken the authorities’ resolve, but insisted that the country remained united and determined.

The Prime Minister credited the response to the armed forces and the leadership of Assimi Goïta, stating that “hundreds of terrorists” were neutralized across the country.

Military officials, including Chief of Staff Oumar Diarra, reported major operations in areas such as Kidal, Gao and Mopti, alongside a reorganization of troop deployment.

The attacks were claimed by Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin and the Front for the Liberation of Azawad. Maïga called on citizens to remain united and vigilant, pledging to adapt military strategy and continue the fight against terrorism until its complete eradication.
