Niger Signs $1.9 Billion Deal for 100,000-Barrel-a-Day Refinery

Niger and ZIMAR GROUP have signed an agreement for the construction of a 100,000-barrel-per-day refinery and petrochemical complex in Dosso, as part of the government’s efforts to increase local processing of crude oil.

The project, valued at about $1.9 billion, will be developed under a public-private partnership using the Build, Operate and Transfer model, with construction expected to take three years.

The refinery is expected to strengthen Niger’s petroleum self-sufficiency, reduce dependence on imported fuel and create opportunities for regional exports.

Authorities also hope the project will position Niger as a regional refining and petrochemical hub while supporting industrialization and increasing the value generated from the country’s oil resources.
