Nigeria Deports 51 Foreign Nationals Over Cybercrime Convictions

The Nigerian government has deported 50 Chinese nationals and one Tunisian after they were convicted of cyber-terrorism and internet fraud, in a renewed crackdown on foreign-led cybercrime networks.

The action was carried out by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in partnership with the immigration service, bringing the total number of deportations since the clampdown began on August 15 to 102.

Authorities said the latest deportees were among nearly 200 foreign nationals arrested in Lagos during a raid that dismantled one of the country’s largest cybercrime syndicates.

The EFCC previously arrested almost 800 suspects in a Lagos building late last year, where fraudsters allegedly lured victims into fake romance schemes before coercing them into bogus cryptocurrency investments.
