The Nigerian government has strengthened its collaboration with the European Union (EU) and other development partners to advance regional development nationwide.
The announcement came during a courtesy visit by the EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Gautier Mignot, to the Ministry of Regional Development in Abuja. According to a statement by Sani Datti, Head of Information and Public Relations, Minister Engr. Abubakar Momoh reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to deepening partnerships with international stakeholders to achieve sustainable development across all regions.
During the meeting, Minister Momoh highlighted the Ministry’s mandate to coordinate and implement projects that meet the specific needs of Nigeria’s diverse regions. He emphasized the importance of technical support from the EU, particularly in manpower training, institutional capacity-building, and strategic operational planning.
Also present, Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, noted the timing of the visit as crucial, as the Ministry consolidates its operations across the country.
The Ministry now oversees seven regional development commissions, three in northern Nigeria and four in the south, evolving from the former Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
