In a bold move to enhance national security, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the withdrawal of mobile police officers assigned to VIPs across the country.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun gave the directive during a high-level meeting with his commanders.
The IGP expressed concern over the long-standing diversion of elite police units to non-core roles, such as escort and guard duties for private individuals—a misuse he said has undermined the operational strength of the Police Mobile Force (PMF).
He also reevaluated the state of internal security, emphasizing the PMF’s core responsibility to protect the public and restore the integrity of specialized security units amid escalating national threats.
